SMS System: Guidelines and Best Practices

Updated over a month ago

Practices that flag spam filters, and risk your number being throttled by carriers

  1. Sending a link in the first message (very very risky, do NOT do this)

  2. Using URL shorteners (like bit.ly)

  3. Not introducing the sender (always start with "this is [name] at [dental practice])

  4. Sending a campaign too often (the ideal cadence is every 1-2 months)

  5. Using too many emojis (a few emojis are ok, but do not fill the message with them)

  6. Making the message too long (200-300 characters is the sweet spot)

Practices that lead to poor results

  1. Sending an unappealing offer that people aren't interested (follow our guidelines to avoid this).

  2. Sending multiple offers in 1 message. Stick to ONE offer/campaign.

  3. Not including a clear call to action (e.g. "Reply "YES" if interested").

  4. Over texting your list. Don't burn people out. Stick to 1+ month intervals for your campaigns.

Best Practices

  1. Use or model our recommended campaigns.

  2. Only send appealing offers.

  3. Always introduce yourself in the message: "Hi this is [name] at [dental practice]."

  4. Use ONE offer in your message. A confused mind does not buy.

  5. Stick to 200-350 characters in your message.

  6. Include a clear call to action (e.g. "Reply "YES" if interested").
